Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Seekers and Planners groups.
Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
